The story of early Miami and Coral Gables comes to life in the 80-minute, fast-paced and entertaining one-act play written by playwright, June Thomson Morris in honor of the 100th Anniversary of the City of Coral Gables. Lucy Mae Barnes, a spirited 19-year-old, rides the Florida East Coast Railroad unescorted from Indiana to a land unfamiliar in the 1920’s to meet Robert Thomson for the first time. On the way down, she meets Frank Harris, a journalist from New York whose aim is to uncover the truth about the Florida land craze that has seized the imagination of the country. The three provide the backbone to the story, which takes the audience on a wild ride through the Great Florida Land Boom of 1925 and subsequent Land Bust followed by the Hurricane of 1926. Key players are Carl Fisher, George Merrick, and Edward “Doc” Dammers. A true love story resonates 100 years later in Greetings From Paradise with warnings about lust, greed, and where the insatiable desire for paradise on earth can lead.
